Chapter 4: Algebra Puzzle

Solution 1:
3 clocks = 12
Therefore, 1 clock is equal to 4
Since 1 clock is 4
36 - 4 = 32
2 pumpkins is equal to 32
1 pumpkin is 16
2 pumpkins is 32, 1 pen = 37-32
= 5
1 clock = 4 1 pumpkin = 16 1 pen = 5

Solution 2:
Let c represent the clock
Let p represent the pumpkin
Let x represent the pen

3c = 12
c = 12/3
Therefore, c = 4
2p + c = 36
2p = 36 - 4
= 32
p = 32/2
Therefore, p = 16
2p = 32 (as stated above)
x = 37 - 32
= 5
Therefore, x = 5
The final answer is that 1 clock represents 4, 1 pumpkin represents 16 and 1 pen represents 5.

Post Orientation Reflection

The 3 highlights are:
1) The icebreakers
I got to know my new class better, that's important so that I can have fun in the following 4 years in the new environment. I like how we all had fun too.

2)The Orientation Camp
We all had loads of fun together with our facilitator and we learnt more about being together as a class and how working together can help quicken the process of doing something. Although we had bad weather on the first day, I had learnt a lot and had the most fun in these 3 days. I got a chance to thank our PSLs and facilitators and teachers as well.

3)The Badge Ceremony
It is the day we officially join the SST family and the day I get to go on stage. Although we had to rush to complete everything on time and it was an exhaustingly long day, I am sure we all agree that it is worth the effort.

The 3 "low" moments are:
1) When we were facing troubles in the camp
During the indoor games, we quarreled and was frustrated and impatient over missing success time and again. We couldn't work together as a team and faced many problems, it was tough to get a plan that we all agreed on.

2)When we had to leave the camp
We didn't want to part with our facilitator after we had so much fun together. She taught us so much and we really appreciate her. I hoped we could spend more time together.

3)Before Badge Ceremony
We were busy and rushing through stuff, it was tiring to plan out everything within a short span of time. It was a bit stressful since our decoration... fell apart on the second day and we still had more to do.

The 3 greatest takeaway are:
1) How we can work together as a team
We can always accept others' opinion and improve it instead of interrupting others and fighting to talk. We should also make sure everybody has fun and participates actively.

2)How to blend into our new environment
It is natural to be in denial at first, but slowly, we get used to the new school and make more friends and accept and enjoy the fact that we have graduated from primary school. We gradually change and soon will be happy with where we are.

3)Togetherness as a class
After the whole Orientation program, we learnt a lot about togetherness, unity and friendship. We can work together better than before, especially throughout the process of the camp and worked as one to change what was interfering with our path to success. I believe that our bonds has greatly strengthened in this Orientation program.

I learnt that I tend to be hard on myself and that I should seek help when needed instead of struggling alone. I should lend others a helping hand and participate with 100% effort and do my best in whatever is given to me to do. And of course, to cooperate more with others since I tend to keep to myself at times.

I am looking forward to our overseas trip! I simply cannot wait to learn more about other countries and studying beyond our limits!

Signing off,
JiaEn

Day 1 Mac Attack 1 - Activity 4: End-of-Day Reflection

Reflection Questions
  1. What have you done today?
  2. What have you learnt today?
  3. Why did you choose to come to SST?
  4. What are your aspirations as a member of the SST family?
  5. How have you grown from the activities conducted today? Use one of the pictures from the PICASA album which best illustrates your growth (especially in relation to the 3Rs).

    We played some interesting icebreaker games to familiar with our new classmates and discussed the 3Rs that our class should always uphold. With the help of our seniors, we managed to learn about some special rooms that we may need to use next time. We also learnt to use our learning device efficiently and appropriately, and how to create blogs and use PICASA. I decided to apply for SST because it seemed different from the other secondary school and more interesting. It also focused on the subject I hold interest in.

    My aspiration as a member of SST is to seek to improve myself in an environment I believe is well-suited for me and allow my efforts to bring glory to the school, teachers, parents and of course myself. I believe that this can keep me going and heading for the top.
I have learnt that everyone has an important role and responsibility to hold and that I should always consider and improve on others' ideas and opinions
